If you’ve ever thought about making your own reusable snack bags, I have good news for you. It’s actually pretty darn simple. You can make these bags from scratch or buy prefabricated ones from the store. It’s really as simple as that!

Do you feel like you’re only using plastic baggies when you go to the supermarket? Well, maybe you are, but even those are only good for so long. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see people using disposable paper lunch bags for years on end before they finally decide to give them away or toss them in the trash. It’s these reusable snack bags with waterproof fabric that have made a comeback in popularity.

An Overview

The way these reusable snack bags with waterproof fabric work is that you simply tear off one end of the baggie, then hold it down against the counter or table to hold things like candies, chips, pretzels, cookies and other yummy treats. Then, if you want to eat out of the bag, all you do is put the food into the resealable bag, zip it up (seamwise) and you’re all set. It s like a one-yard cotton fabric shopping bag with a zipper closure on the top and sides. It’s so simple, yet so very convenient!

Of course, to make your own reusable snack bags, you’ll need a few supplies. First, you’ll need an old zipper-less handbag, a seam ripper (yes, you’ll need this! ), and a pair of scissors. If you don’t know how to sew, or you just want something really easy to make that only requires a little bit of time and imagination, then this is a great project for you to do…

To begin, make sure the seams on the bag are all even. (You can test this by pinching different sides together.) Next, you’ll need to measure the width and length of the baggie. With the zipper closed, carefully measure both the width and length of the baggie. Once you’ve got this information, sew a straight line down the sides of the baggie where you will sew the zipper.

Now, turn the bag inside out, and sew along the zipper. Remember, be sure to allow for the seam allowance. Once you’ve lined up the baggie to where the edges meet, pull it open and check for evenness. If not, go back to your tracing paper and make those same marks again, this time at the seam allowance.

Once you have these marks, press the bag lightly against the paper, and then iron the seams carefully. Once you’ve got them sewn together, pull the zipper up and out. As with all DIY projects, once you’re done with one side, turn it inside out, press the other sides down, and then iron the zipper once more. And there you have it – a perfectly functional bag that doesn’t require any special sewing skills.

These bags are great for packing lunches and snacks for work or play. There are many other uses for these bags as well, so make sure to look into the rest of DIY ideas for buying and using reusable bags. This is one of the easiest projects to tackle for those that don’t have a lot of sewing experience. Happy crafting!

Start your project off right by setting up your measuring cup and spoon. Grab the reusable grocery bag (our preferred) and set the snap shut. Next, measure out the dimensions of your baggies and write those down. The measurement of the bags is an important part of your overall project since this will help determine how many bags you are going to need. After you’ve taken the measurements, grab your glue gun and give it a good whirl. This will help seal your bags nicely.

In The End

Finally, the last steps in your DIY reusable bags project! Slide one end of the fabric over the zipper and press down until it is snug against the bag’s bottom. Then, simply roll the bag over and stitch the zippers together. It’s as easy as that! The material of your choice for these bags is up to you, but either way, it’s easy and fun to make them.
