There are many types of environmental issues that we are dealing with right now. These issues include increased greenhouse gas, depleting fossil fuel, excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, loss of vegetation, deforestation etc.
If we do not act fast to save our environment from the damage of these environmental issues we will give a very bad future for our future generations. In order to deal with it we have to first know all the issues and then take protective measures to control or stop them.
Here Are 7 Environmental Issues That Need Attention
1. Environmental Issues – Pollution
The different types of pollution are water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution. They are mainly caused by human beings. The dumping in the ocean, oil spills, and urban runoff is the cause of water pollution. The burning of fossil fuels, gases, and smoke from the car, hydraulic fracturing leads to air pollution. Industrial waste is also a major cause of water and soil pollution.
2. Environmental Issues – Global Warming
When the earth’s temperature increases due to the effect of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor it is called global warming. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the earth’s temperature has increased by 0.8 percent in the past century.
Global warming leads to climate change, droughts, and diseases.
3. Environmental Issues – Deforestation
As the population increases the demand for food clothes, the shelter also increases. For the purpose of agriculture, urban and industrial use trees and forests need to be cut. Residential, commercial and industrial purposes need to be fulfilled. This is called deforestation. Deforestation causes various types of problems. Global warming, floods, soil erosion, climate imbalance, extinction of wildlife.
4. The Growing Population
The planet earth’s population grows at a rate of 1.13 percent per year. This is the cause of severe issues like loss of habitat for wild animals, overuse of natural resources, the extinction of species. Our earth is losing 30,000 species per year because of population growth.
5. Genetic Modification Of Crops
Genetic plants leak chemical compounds through their roots in the Soil, Which affects the microorganisms in the soil. Weed killers contain glyphosate which causes a ninety percent reduction of the monarch butterfly population in the United States. Therefore it’s a major concern.
6. Depletion Of The Ozone Layer
The depletion of the ozone layer causes major issues like the reduction of plankton in marine environments. UV rays reach the earth’s surface because of the ozone layer depletion it causes serious diseases like skin cancer and blindness. It also affects plant life on earth.
7. The Nitrogen Cycle
The nitrogen fixation on the earth occurs mainly because of agriculture and the use of man-made fertilizers. Excessive use of nitrogen is the cause of marine environmental issues. This leads to overstimulation of algae and plant growth, less light goes into deeper water and affects other aquatic life.
